Welcome to the website of the Magyar Sziget festival!

The festival takes place between the 2-9th of August in 2010.

The Magyar Sziget (« Hungarian Island ») festival is the most important festival and patriotic event in Hungary, organized since 2001. Spend a week with people thinking the same way you do, and recharge your batteries for the rest of the year!

We offer a wide range of activities throughout the week: several concerts, conferences and presentations about Hungarian history, traditions and today’s conservative resistance; cavalry, infantry and archery demonstrations. Besides, excursions, recreation programmes, and children’s programmes are also available. Shops with unique handmade folk art gifts, traditional weapons, interesting books, as well as bars, pubs, football field and shooting range are waiting for our guests.

(Activities and programmes will be held regardless of weather conditions. We have the right to change the programmes.)

The festival takes place in Verőce, 30 kilometres (18,64 miles) north from Budapest, in a picturesque little valley surrounded by forest. The festival is accessible by car (parking is available for cars and buses) and by train (a direct train is departing from Budapest, Western Railway station (Nyugati Pályaudvar), for further information, click here.)

The gallery of the 2009 festival is available at www.szentkoronaradio.com/msz2009

Tickets (wristbands)

All visitors of the Magyar Sziget are obliged to wear a daily or weekly wristband. It is strictly forbidden to stay in the area of the Festival without, or with a void wristband. Wristbands should be purchased at the entrance.

The wristband is non-transferable, therefore it is forbidden to lend it or to hand it over to anyone else. The wristband is valid only if worn on the wrist during its validity, intact, and its diameter is smaller than that of the hand (therefore it cannot be removed without damaging it).

Daily tickets are valid from 8:00 am of the day of purchase till next day 11:00 am.

The ticket prices are the following (in Hungarian forint, HUF):
- daily ticket: 2800 HUF for weekdays; 3000 HUF for Saturday or Sunday
- weekly ticket: 13800 HUF
- weekly ticket including 3 meals/day: 26800 HUF

Money Exchange

The actual exchange rate between Euro and Forint fluctuates, but it is generally between 260-280 HUF for 1 EUR.

We recommend you not to change money neither at the airport, nor at international bus stations or Western Union offices, as the exchange rates are very low.

You can find a good exchange office for example in Budapest Nyugati Railway station (on the right hand side as you enter).

Please note, that we accept only cash, payable in Hungarian Forint only.

The site of the Festival includes a big camping area as well, so do not forget to bring a tent. Once you have purchased your ticket, you are free to find the appropriate place for your tent. Clean toilets and shower facilities are available on site.
